Related services (physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology, assistive technology, etc.) are required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) in order to meet the educational needs of students with disabilities. A severe shortage of related service personnel in the Federated States of Micronesia, American Samoa, Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), Republic of Palau, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands has resulted in inadequate and/or inconsistent supports for students with disabilities and their families and teachers in related services. Related Services Assistants (RSAs) were trained in each jurisdiction to meet these needs.( Learn More about RSAs )
